The people of Western Odisha has decided to observe the birth Aniversary of Poet Satyanarayan Bohidar as Sambalpuri Day on August 1. Sambalpuri Day is also a festival for Western Odisha People, like Nuakhai, Puspuni, Dhanujatra, and Sitalsathi. In August 1 everybody needs to wear Sambalpuri Clothes- these things show that the respect and dedication towards own culture and tradition.

What is Sambalpuri Day-August 1?

The Paschimanchala Akata Manch has decided to observe the birth anniversary of poet Satyanarayan Bohidar as "Sambalpuri Day" on August 1.

The day will be commended for sorting out a mass social celebration of the move and tune in the city between Jail Chhak and Kacheri Chhak.

People will wear colorful Sambalpuri attire and varieties of west Odisha popular food will be sold on the occasion. A typical Sambalpuri "Ptha" competition will also be organized. One of the main attraction will be a fashion show.

Aside from different social projects, reference of Sambalpuri verse will be sorted out in which different social and abstract associations will partake, convener of Paschimanchala Akata Manch Bhawani Bhoi said. He said arrangements were on to make the program vivid and alluring.

Who is Satya Narayan Bohidar?

Satya Narayan Bohidar (1 August 1913- 31 December 1980) was a Sambalpuri Poet and Writer. He also knows as the pioneer of Sambalpuri Language, Grammar, and Writing.

Satyanarayana Bohidar Birth Year

1 August 1913- Death Year- 31 December 1980
Birth Place: Sonepur, Odisha

His formative and creative years were spent in Sambalpur that produced a good no. of literary translations and biographies. Fighting against all odds, Sri Bohidar was successful in preparing the dictionary and grammar especially in Sambalpuri Language which provided a significant identity to it. Satya Narayan Bohidar died on 31^st December 1980, leaving a great legacy behind him to influence the future generations.

Boihidar was a teacher in the Chandrasekhar Behera Zilla School. He had written many Sambalpuri popular poems. Actor Atal Bihari Panda will be honored with "Satyanarayan Bohidar Memorial Award" by the organizers on this occasion.

Bhoi said socio-cultural troupes such as Lahari, Natraj, Adivasi Kala Kendra, Kala-O-Kalakar, Loka Nrutya Parishad have confirmed that they would take part in the event. Singers Syam Sundar Dhar, Durga Das, Lipika Bohidar, Raj Kumar Jal, and Padmini Dora will enthrall the audience with their performances with the accompaniment of dhol, Muhuri, and Nishan.

"Efforts are on to celebrate the day in various parts of Western Odisha," Kamal Panda, convener of Western Odisha Hirakhand Samukhaya said.

"The main aim of the Sambalpuri Day is to promote Sambalpuri culture, language and its tradition in the present modern day context."
